the journey to becoming your photographer

Throughout my entire life I've evolved from persona to persona, finding myself in different places, with different kinds of people. I've phased through plenty of interests, & styles, but as I reminisce on all the years of my life, there has been one constant throughout it all... I've always kept a camera in hand.
Being able to capture mundane moments from a spot that's just right— freeze it in time, and witness it become something as breathtaking as a painting displayed on a wall is an incredible art form that continues to capture my heart.
From the first iPod nano with a camera, to handheld digitals, then my first DSLR camera in 7th grade, it was pretty constant for me to be taking photos of anything & everything. I purchased my first 'big girl' camera in 11th grade, it was the biggest purchase I had ever made in my life, and still the best one I've ever made.
Years after graduating high school, I had been waitressing at a restaurant when my manager approached me with an opportunity to intern at their corporate office. Turns out my creative knack deemed itself useful, because they eventually hired me full-time as an Assistant Creative Designer.
During my corporate career, I learned a lot about business, technology, & unexpectedly learned a lot about cameras. This became the foundation of knowledge for me when I decided to start my own business. Time passed on, and I became increasingly ambitious of pursuing other goals in life, not yet knowing what they were. All I knew was that the 9-5 wasn't meant for me.
It wasn't until I was at a friends wedding when a lightbulb finally went off in my head. The wedding photographer was a girl around my age, she was making her dream happen... and I immediately thought, "why don't I make my dreams happen too?".
I quit my corporate job, which was terrifying for me. I lived alone, was completely broke, and didn't really have anything besides my dog, my bills, my camera, and my newfound, unrelenting ambition to make what I've realized has been my lifelong passion, into my career. I've always been one to jump head first into things, but this was the first time I had ever been scared.
The jump has been so worth it. And by the grace of God, Whom I sincerely give all the credit to, I had accomplished, and am still accomplishing my dreams. I now share the credit with the many wonderful people who have supported my dreams and trusted me with their life's most precious moments. This has been a prayer answered, a gift I'll never stop being gracious for, and a privilege I'll never take for granted.
